The Culmination of a Legend

Technics Grand Class SL-1200G Master Edition/SL-1210G Master Edition Press Release

The Culmination of a Legend

Technics coronates its Grand Class “G” turntable model with a limited “Master Edition”, utilising the combination of the state-of-the-art ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive) motor control technology with the superb mechanical SL-1200 “G” chassis platform, resulting in the ultimate SL-1200 Series turntable ever available

Warsaw, October 24th, 2025 – Today, renowned hi-fi brand Technics has released a true sensation, announcing an ultimate and limited version of the SL-1200/1210G model, setting a historical quality milestone for the worldwide highly acclaimed SL-1200 Series turntable.
“No doubt the SL-1200 turntable series is one of the most, if not the most legendary turntable series in the world. First released in 1972 and evolved over decades, the SL-1200 Series has inspired millions of vinyl enthusiast, both for professional and home use, to immerge in vinyl music playback like no other turntable product in the world has achieved,” says Frank Balzuweit, Senior Product Manager at Technics Europe.
“Revived in 2016 as “SL-1200GAE” model – limited to 1200 pieces worldwide and revolutionising the turntable drive technology by first using an iron-coreless motor in combination with digital motor control technology - the SL-1200GAE not only was sold-out immediately after launch, it also set new audiophile performance standards. From there, we have created a new turntable line-up during the past 10 years which proved that the coreless direct drive technology is the de-facto standard for ultimate vinyl playback performance.” Balzuweit adds.
“As a company constantly driving technical evolution to the limit, our next evolutionary achievement was the ΔΣ-Drive(Delta Sigma Drive) motor control technology, utilizing digital processing techniques used in our highly acclaimed full-digital amplifiers to reduce motor vibrations down to the limits of measurable. Within our turntable line-up, both SL-1200GR2 and the SL-1300G profit from this superb drive technology with an unmatched rotational smoothness. Yet, so far, the SL-1200/1210 “G” models have missed this superior motor control technology. The final version of the beloved SL-1200G/1210G series has been transformed into a Master Edition, incorporating a decade of Technics’ expertise. This limited version represents the pinnacle of the SL-1200 series, featuring a special gold design and available worldwide in Silver: 1,200 units / Black: 1,210 units—each a standout in the SL-1200 legacy. Our strongest engineering wish has been to coronate the “G” model in a limited edition, with our latest technological achievements such as the ΔΣ-Drive and the Low-Noise Switching Power Supply to simply build the very best SL-1200 turntable ever, at the same time creating a collector’s item which is also visually a final beautiful piece of art in terms of sophisticated product design”, Frank Balzuweit concludes.

State-of-the-art Drive Technology
The ΔΣ-Drive motor control technology is capable of delivering the perfect driving sine wave signal for the iron-coreless direct drive motor. By using PWM signal generation using ΔΣ (Delta Sigma) Modulation, as employed in Technics’ full-digital amplifiers, motor vibrations are reduced to the minimum, resulting in a super smooth rotational accuracy.
This revolutionary technology has been firstly used in the SL-1200GR2 turntable by Technics and later been introduced in the SL-1300G where it has been combined with the sophisticated iron-coreless double-rotor/single stator motor type, delivering an exceptional rotational precision for ultimately audiophile vinyl record performance.
As with the SL-1300G, in the SL-1200/1210G Master Edition Technics is utilizing the superb iron-coreless double-rotor/single stator engine, eliminating unwanted “cogging” and delivering high drive torque for superior rotational power. For the SL-1200/1210G Master Edition, this motor type has been thoroughly reworked by a reinforced stator board with non-magnetic screws, further reducing minute vibrations in order to efficiently smoothen the sensitive tracking process.
Last not least, a Hybrid Encoder for Rotational Speed Detection, using a Hall Sensor for Rotor Position Detection, is meticulously keeping the rotation speed even with external influences such as warped vinyl discs for ensuring a rock-solid pitch with even the most critical natural instruments such a piano or a violin.

Superb mechanical construction
In the SL-1200/1210G Master Edition, all electronical motor drive techniques are combined with the top class mechanical product engineering that makes the “G” model valuable and desirable.

The 4-layered bottom chassis made of aluminium die-cast and BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound), added by a 10mm strong hairline-brushed aluminum top plate and a heavy-weight rubber coating of the bottom chassis result in an unparalleled mechanically rigid fundament suppressing unwanted vibrations for an undisturbed vinyl tracking process.

Another key factor for rotational perfection is the 3-layered platter made of aluminum die-cast, vibration suppressing heavyweight rubber on the bottom surface and a noble 2mm thick brass top plate for additional vibration reduction. Together with the solid rubber mat, the total weight of the platter adds up to an impressive 3,6kg, enabling high mass inertia supporting an ultimately smooth rotation, at the same time adding an extra portion of high-grade touch & feel.
Each platter for the SL-1200/1210G Master Edition is balanced individually on dedicated machines for ensuring nothing less than a perfect rotation free of even the slightest unevenness.
The high-sensitivity S-shaped magnesium tonearm with high-precision bearings, enabling an ultimately high initial motion sensitivity, makes maximum use of the vibration-free chassis and drive technology for an ultimately precise reading of the information engraved in the vinyl grooves.
Highly efficient insulator feet utilizing the synthetic high-tech damping material α-gel shut out external vibrations from the standing surface for further soothing the tracking process for undisturbed musical enjoyment.

Latest Power Supply Technology
The superb qualities of the mechanical + electronical drive system is further supported by the new Multi-stage Silent Power Supply similar to the one used in our reference turntable SL-1000R. It is a combination of a low-noise, high-speed power supply working at over 100kHz and a noise canceling circuit, cancelling remaining noise by injecting the reversed-phase current of the actual noise. By this method, a very low noise floor is achieved, enabling exceptional signal-to-noise ratio, improving the overall signal performance.

Sophisticated Product Design Style for a True Collector’s Item
The SL-1200/1210GME turntable – being the ultimate, limited SL-1200 Series model - deserves tasteful style elements to underline noble exclusivity. Therefore, it come with the following gold-colored elements as signs of differentiation from the standard “G” model:

• Tonearm with Gold color painting
• Head shell with Gold color printing of the Technics logo
• Top panel with Gold colored Technics logo
• Logo badge “Master Edition” with serial number
• Dust cover logo sheet with Gold color printing Technics logo

Commitment to the reduction of our environmental footprint
To reduce environmental impact of our packaging while ensuring that Technics products are fully protected throughout their journey to our consumers, the new packaging for the SL-1200/1210G Master Edition is free of Expanded Polystyrene(EPS). Instead, it is made of smart shaped cardboard, maintaining safe protection of the product, also including a cardboard box for the accessories, allowing ease of removal and storage. Technics has worked hard to transform all their line-up’s packaging to reduce the environmental footprint to a minimum.

“We are sad about the fact that we will have to discontinue the SL-1200/1210G model by the end of this year due to the discontinuation of some parts which we are purchasing from an external vendor”, Frank Balzuweit states. “However, we are delighted to celebrate the end of the SL-1200/1210 “G” model* with a true audiophile masterpiece, incorporating the best Technics turntable technology in a collector’s item which is likely to soon become a legend of its own, a statement of Technics mastery in turntable design – the SL-1200/1210G Master Edition”.
