Direct Drive Turntable System SL-1200G
Insightful with tight base and a deep soundstage
I’ve owned a number Technics turntables and separates over the years so am very familiar with the brand. There is a lot of high-end competition and choice at this price point, and I auditioned a number of turntables ranging from 3 - 5k. Every time coming back to the SL-1200G as the best for overall musicality and transparency (which are the two main drivers for me). It’s also a pleasure to use and handle with a fantastic feeling of quality components. I initially partnered it with an Ortofon 2M black LVB MM direct into my Quad analog preamp, but have now moved up to a Sumiko Songbird MC running via a Teac phono preamp. I have quite eclectic music taste ranging from Jazz & Rock through to all forms of Classical music. Both my stylus setups paired extremely well with the SL-1200G, with the latter bringing a wider soundstage. Overall, I’m really pleased with the SL-1200G’s and its bombproof build and quality suggest I should hopefully have many years of happy listening to come!
