9 May 2019 – Technics will unveil its new OTTAVA™ S SC-C30 Wireless Speaker System at the HIGH END audio show in Munich. The SC-C30 optimally positions 2 tweeters, 2 woofers, and 1 subwoofer in its compact, arc form design. These are powerfully driven by a 2.1-channel full digital amp to obtain room-filling Hi-Fi sound. It also includes Technics' original Space Tune™ function to optimise the sound to the installation environment. To further increase its convenience as a wireless network speaker, the SC-C30 has Chromecast built-in to support a variety of music streaming services and easily play multi-room music.
More compact than the OTTAVA™ S SC-C50, which was announced to popular acclaim at last year's HIGH END audio show, the SC-C30 will be placed on the market in Autumn 2019 as a wireless network speaker for easy enjoyment of high-quality audio.
Hi-res Compatible 2.1-Channel, 3-Way Speaker Room-Filling Soundstage
A Wide Soundstage from a Compact Body
By positioning 2 woofers, 2 tweeters and 1 subwoofer into its arc form body, the SC-C30 covers a wide listening area. Further, setting the tweeter with a unique acoustic lens provides wide directivity. The amp section features Technics' original Three JENO Engines (Jitter Elimination and Noise-shaping Optimisation). Using a 2.1-channel full digital amp configuration to powerfully and accurately drive each speaker unit, clear sound imaging and scaling are produced.
Truly Powerful Sound Architecture
The SC-C30 houses a total of 5 speaker units (a 12-cm subwoofer, 6.5-cm x 2 woofers, and 1.6-cm x 2 tweeters) into a highly rigid body reinforced by glass fibre. The tweeters reproduce up to the ultrahigh-frequency range of 50 kHz to cover hi-res sound sources. Positioned in the front surface of the body, the long-stroke subwoofer combines with a large-diameter long port to produce clear, tight bass sounds. By placing these speaker units in optimal positions, a powerful, expansive sound is produced that is difficult to imagine from a compact speaker.
3 JENO Engines and LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration)
Technics' original Three JENO Engines produce optimal performance, with superior sound imaging through subwoofer, woofer, and tweeter alignment. This achieves excellent tuning and optimises sound spaces to fit individual listening environments using Space Tune™. The OTTAVA™ S SC-C30 also features the LAPC function, which is load adaptive amplifier technology developed by Technics. LAPC measures the amp's frequency amplitude phase characteristics with speakers connected to the unit, and performs digital signal processing to achieve the ideal impulse response. Parameters optimised for the low-frequency and high-frequency speaker load characteristics are pre-set in the LAPC computation circuit of the unit to realise ideal frequency and phase characteristics over the entire frequency range.
Optimally balanced sound for any listening environment
The SC-C30 features Space Tune™ Auto to achieve optimally balanced sound easily with the press of a button. This function measures test tones played through a mic that is built into the SC-C30 to analyse the distance to walls and the effect of reflections. It then automatically optimises the sound field. In addition, the Space Tune™ function includes 3 presets (Free, Near the Wall, and Near the Corner) for easy setting, and uses a Technics Audio Center app to precisely adjust the sound quality to the listening position.
Broad selection of streaming services, easy-to-use controls
Google Chromecast Built-in
The Chromecast built-in function supports a wide variety of music streaming services for easy casting from a smartphone app. And since the data is streamed directly to the main unit, there is no degradation in sound quality, and the user can select from a diverse range of music.
Works with the Google Assistant
If a Google Assistant built-in device is included is included in the same network, Google Assistant can be used to operate OTTAVA™ S SC-C30 music playback and other functions. When the user doesn't have a smartphone app in hand, or when hands are full, music can be easily played by voice command.
Multi-room and Stereo Pairing*1
With a number of Chromecast built-in speakers, the variety of music streaming services can be played in several rooms, or different music can be played from room to room*2. In addition, if you use Technics Audio Center app and have another app compatible Technics devices, you can also enjoy other music source in multi-room such as Bluetooth®, AUX, Optical input, USB, Internet radio and also OTTAVA™ S SC-C30 compatible streaming music. If two OTTAVA™ S SC-C30s are arranged and set to stereo, you can enjoy highly ambient stereo sound*1.
*1 The stereo pairing function is scheduled for updating simultaneously with the product launch.
*2 The Google Home App is required.
In addition to USB playback and analogue/optical input, the SC-C30 supports Bluetooth®, AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify, Tidal, and Network Playback, allowing comfortable playback of a diverse range of music sources from a single unit.
Up to 9 presets can be set on the main unit, such as favourite internet radio stations, a Spotify playlist, and USB songs. This makes it possible to listen to your favourite music without even starting up an app.
An Elegant and Timeless Arc Form Design
The SC-C30 combines practical function with elegant design. The thick aluminum top panel increases the rigidity of the chassis, and the iconic OLED is surrounded by ring keys for easy operation. Rear louvers add further elegance. And the beautiful arc form, which helps to eliminate unwanted vibration in the chassis, incorporates acoustic technology to achieve a wide sound stage. This lets you freely place the SC-C30 to suit the listening position. And you can also choose a black or white colour to match your room.
